Perl version 5.002 installed on all Solaris 2.5 platforms as /usr/local/bin/perl5

On Solaris 2.5 platforms /bin/login and rlogind have been updated. They will now warn AFS users when they are nearing their disk quota. A bug in serial logins has also been fixed.

Recently added software:
Netscape version 3.0 and Netscape Gold version 3.0 have been installed. Netscape version 2.0 can be used with the "netscape2" command. Netscpae Gold can be used with the "netscape-gold" command.

The spreadsheet Wingz 2.1 for Solaris has been installed. tap wingz2 for more info.

Allegro CL Common Lisp version 4.3 and Allegro Composer for SunOS and Solaris has been installed. tap allegro for more info.

Purify, a program to detect run-time memory corruption errors and memory leaks, has been installed. tap purify for more info.

The Java Developers Kit (JDK) has been upgraded from 1.0 to 1.0.2. This 1.0.2 release of the Java Developers Kit (JDK) lets you write applets that conform to the 1.0 Java applet API. Tap java for more info.

C-Kermit (kermit) has been upgraded on Solaris and DU to version 190.

The Glue news server has been upgraded today. It was an DECStation 5000 running ultrix, and is now a DEC AlphaServer 400 running DU 3.2d. There should be a noticable speed improvement. The numbering of the news articles has changed, so some duplicate articles will be seen, but nothing should be missing.

Pine 3.95 and Pico 3.95 have been installed on the various platforms. The old versions have been renamed "pine-3.91 and "pico-3.91". There are new options and features to both, so type "man pico" or "man pine" for more information.

ftpd on Solaris has been updated to fix a bug with "mget".

mountd on Solaris and DU platforms now has support for Hesiod netgroups.

xlockmore-3.9 installed as xlock on WAM and most Glue 1.5 platforms- this version adds more nifty screensavers to the existing list. This new version has been compiled to add a logout button to the screen after 10 minutes. This logout button will only appear in the open labs.

5/15/96

A new version of finger and fingerd were installed. Users' .plan and .project files will now be displayed by default. The correct location of these files is in the user's pub directory (~/../pub or /users/$USER/pub) similar to Welcome.html files. Fingerd has been modified to only show the users long finger information (i.e finger -l) when you add a '+' to the remote user's name, as in: finger user+@some.host.name.

IMSL version 3 has now been installed for Solaris, SunOS, Digital Unix, HP-UX, IRIX, and AIX. tap imsl3 for more information.

The trial period for the following Matlab toolboxes has been extended until the end of the semester, after that they will be removed. If your department would like to contribute to purchasing long term licenses for these toolboxes, please contact Patrick Lee at x5-2985.

Added an alias on Solaris in /local/lib/init/cshrc. Because "df -k" gives what "df" gives you on other OS's, "alias 'df df -k'" was added.

Mail messages larger than 3,000,000 bytes will no longer be accepted. One option is to use ftp instead.

less version 251 installed on SunOS machines- This version fixes several bugs in the 205 version and adds several new features.

A vi based text editor vim (Vi Improved) has been installed.
