Overview

This five day workshop is targeted at graduate students, research staff, and faculty members interested in the application of quantum computing to Earth Science data, from remote sensing and signal processing to data analytics and large-scale ensemble climate modeling.

A series of pre-bootcamp workshops (virtual; week of August 8) will introduce registered participants to practical quantum computing.

The in-person bootcamp (August 15-19, 2022) will cover the following topics:

The bootcamp is divided in morning presentations and afternoon lab exercises in quantum computing. Beverages and food for breaks and lunch will be provided.

System Requirements

This is a bring-your-own-laptop style event. As part of the workshop, there will be lab exercises in the afternoons in which practice problems will be worked out together using Python and Jupyter notebooks. Basic knowledge of Python (or other programming languages) is assumed. Participants may install the required software on their laptops or use temporary accounts on UMD's HPC cluster (Deepthought2), which will be provided upon request.

Miscellaneous Details

COVID protocols: While COVID related restrictions have largely been lifted, it is recommended to perform a home test before the beginning of the bootcamp and to wear a face mask during the sessions. We ask everyone who tested positive, to excuse her-/himself; copies of presentations and notebooks will be provided.

While the official application deadline is 7 Aug 2022, space is limited on a first-come first-serve basis, and registration will close once the workshop is full, so we advise you register today to ensure a seat.

Registration is not considered complete until the payment is received. Q-Lab is subsidizing the bootcamp, the workshop fee helps to offset food and beverages for the breaks and for lunch. Please use this secure payment form.
